What Flu? P!nk Crushes National Anthem at the Super Bowl

"I can barely get out of bed when I have the flu, yet #Pink sings one of the best national anthems in history when she has it," wrote one user, while others compared her to Whitney Houston.

P!nk powered through a flu to deliver the National Anthem on Super Bowl Sunday in Minneapolis, and she gave fans a performance for the ages, if the social media response is any indication.

"I have two small Petri dish kids who literally cough INTO MY MOUTH and rub their snot on my cheek," she wrote Saturday Instagram, sharing a photo from rehearsals. "I've been waiting to sing this song since 1991 when I saw my idol, Whitney Houston, own this song."

For P!nk, the chance to open the sporting event is an opportunity she's been dreaming for for 17 years. "I will tell you, this is one of the biggest honors of my life, singing this song in front of my family, my military family, my dad and brother and step mama and family and the world. And the EAGLES!?!?!" P!nk wrote. "I promise I will do my best."

And she did, with many on social media comparing her take on the national anthem to Whitney Houston's classic 1991 performance. There were almost no indications of weakness in her powerful vocals, save one moment of struggle at the high note that she quickly recovered from, and her passion poured through every second of her moment.

P!nk also didn't have time for the haters. Several of them took to Twitter to allege that she disrespected the moment by spitting out a wad of gum before her performance, but this is a woman battling the flu. It wasn't gum at all, and P!nk took to Twitter herself after the performance to set the record straight and put the haters in their place.
