Teri Hatcher Broke Homeless

(Star)

Teri Hatcher is not “broke and homeless,” contrary to a tabloid cover story. Gossip Cop can help set the record straight. And the actress herself is even speaking out to confirm the allegations are not true.

The front of this week’s Star issue touts “world exclusive photos” of Hatcher sitting in a vehicle. The text on the cover exclaims, “Desperate Teri Hatcher Broke & Homeless! She Moves From $5 Million Home Into This Van!” The automobile is a vintage Volkswagen camper that the “Desperate Housewives” star has owned for years, and the paparazzi pictures in question were taken from a distance at a beach in Malibu.

The tabloid alleges Hatcher’s friends are “struggling to understand if Teri’s grungy new digs are just temporary, or proof that her flatlined career has taken its toll on her finances.” One purported “pal” is quoted as saying, “She will do whatever she can to save money. She’s living like a miser.” The gossip magazine goes on to allege Hatcher is renting out her Los Angeles home, and points out that she once described herself as a “very conservative person.”

In a tiny photo caption, the publication acknowledges Hatcher uses the camper for her webseries, “Van Therapy.” It does not mention that the show involves the star driving around Los Angeles to have meaningful conversations with strangers. Hatcher explained this quite clearly in a Haute Living interview released a month ago, yet the outlet does not include such pertinent details. Instead, it wrongly gives the impression she lives in the van full-time and is “broke and homeless.”

Now Hatcher herself is addressing the allegations, revealing that the tabloid was warned before publication that its claims were untrue, but Star printed its false cover story regardless. Speaking with KTLA in an on-camera interview on Thursday, she explains that a “couple of weeks ago, the magazine reached out to my publicist to say, ‘We have these paparazzi photos of Teri at the beach.'” She notes she was “filming drive-bys” for “Van Therapy,” but contends the publication wanted to use the pictures to claim she was “broke” and “suicidal.”

“My lawyer and my publicist said, ‘Categorically not true, you can’t print that, she’s doing a YouTube show, that’s her van, she has many homes in many states all over the country, there’s nothing about this that’s true,'” Hatcher says, “and then they went and ran it anyway.” She goes on, “That is even more egregious, that it was so purposefully hurtful.”

Overall, Hatcher deems the article “absurd,” and stresses that she is neither broke nor homeless, even saying, “I’ve done very well investing my money.” She further compares the situation to “harassment and bullying,” and may take legal action against the tabloid.
