OK! Is attempting to trick its readers into believing Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani got married over the weekend with a misleading headline. It’s simply a bait and switch to get clicks. Gossip Cop can explain.
A new article posted on the tabloid’s website features the headline, “Did Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani Get Married Over The Weekend? The answer, of course, is no. The outlet is well aware of this, but decided to publish the deceptive title anyway.
The online magazine begins its article by asking if the famous couple “pulled a fast one on everyone” and tied the knot. The reason the outlet is asking the question is because Stefani posted several Instagram photos “where she wore white and he had on a classic tux.” It’s not until halfway through the article that the tabloid finally explains the two were dressed to the nines for their friends’ nuptials.
Over the weekend, Stefani and Shelton celebrated their friends’ wedding at River Ranch Stockyards in Fort Worth, Texas. The No Doubt singer documented the festivities with a series of Instagram stories, in which she can be seen hitting the dance floor while her hit song “Hollaback Girl” plays. Stefani also posted several videos and photos of her and Shelton mingling with the bride and groom.
OK! could have easily published an article about the couple enjoying their friends’ wedding, but the outlet instead decided to cover the subject by suggesting Stefani and Shelton were the ones who tied the knot. The tabloid ends its article by speculating that the couple may be inspired to wed after attending the ceremony. The online magazine concludes by asking readers, “When do you think Blake will pop the question to Gwen?” To recap, the piece starts by asking if the couple had gotten married, and ends by asking if they’ll get engaged.
Shelton and Stefani’s relationship appears to be quite strong, so it’s possible they’ll walk down the aisle at some point in the future, but it didn’t happen over the weekend. In a recent interview, Shelton admitted he thinks about marrying Stefani, but also noted he doesn’t see it happening “anytime soon.” The country singer added, “The more time that goes by, I guess, the closer you’d be getting to that.” That’s the latest update on the couple’s potential marriage plans, despite OK! proposing a misleading headline and a series of speculative questions about their relationship.
