Robert Pattinson, Charlie Hunnam Never Feuded, Despite Report A Year Ago

Gossip Cop is periodically looking back at old rumors to see how our busts have held up with time. Today, we’re reflecting on a story that claimed Robert Pattinson and Charlie Hunnam were in feud. 365 days have gone by, and the allegation is still false.

On March 30, 2017, we called out HollywoodLife for creating a fake news story when it alleged there was a “new Hollywood feud brewing” between Pattison and Hunnam, who co-starred together in The Lost City Of Z. The site asserted Pattinson gave Hunnam “the coldest of cold shoulders” on set, and opined that Hunnam “should have made a coffee date with RPatz ahead of shooting” in order to bond with him. The blog cautioned fans against “taking sides between these two,” but still designed its story to make readers think the men were at odds.

Here’s what really happened: In an interview with Screen Daily that had been published days prior, Hunnam admitted he didn’t say “more than 10 words” to Pattinson during filming, describing how there was a “real distance” between them. “I didn’t know if he was just ‘in that zone’ or if he genuinely didn’t like me,” the “Sons of Anarchy” star confessed. However, he explained that not only did that distance create the “right dynamic” for their characters, but Hunnam further revealed Pattinson had “reached out to me subsequently, making overtures for us to be friends.” That led him to realize “it was about the work” and method acting, as opposed to a real, personal dispute between them.

Following the production, the two men reunited to do promotion for their film, and cameras actually caught Pattinson and Hunnam laughing and holding hands on the red carpet. There was no ongoing issue between them. Yet HollywoodLies, as the site is nicknamed, still saw fit to ignore that and inaccurately portray their relationship. Of course, no feud ever did end up brewing between Pattinson and Hunnam, because there wasn’t one.

On the contrary, Hunnam later told “ET” in an interview, “There was no real contention or beef between us… I can actually enjoy having a drink with him now and a hang.” He further called Pattinson a “lovely guy.” Around the same time, the Daily Mail did a story highlighting the “bromantic hug” Pattinson and Hunnam shared at a premiere, noting they “seemed to be fairly good friends.”

HollywoodLies could’ve reported Hunnam’s comments in a straight-forward manner, much as Gossip Cop did. Instead, the outlet opted to twist them for a more sensational angle. But time has proven the website’s spin was just plain wrong.
