A tabloid report claiming there’s a feud between “Big Little Lies” co-stars Reese Witherspoon and Meryl Streep is completely false. Gossip Cop can exclusively debunk the alleged drama. A rep for Streep tells us there’s no truth to it.
The two actresses met up with the entire cast of the HBO series, including Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern and Zoe Kravitz, for dinner at the Soho house in Malibu last week. According to In Touch, however, there was major tension between Witherspoon and Streep during the outing. A so-called “eyewitness” at the restaurant tells the magazine Witherspoon was “really unfriendly” towards the fellow Oscar-winner and tried to act like she was the bigger star.
“I could tell Reese thinks she wears the pants,” adds the outlet’s suspicious source. “There’s definitely a power struggle between them.” This entire article is based on speculation from an alleged restaurant patron, who came to conclusions after supposedly spying on another table. This random diner, who’s anonymous, untraceable and quite possibly nonexistent, also provides zero details about what actually occurred at the restaurant.
On the other hand, Streep’s own spokesperson tells Gossip Cop on the record that she and Witherspoon “couldn’t love each other more.” We’re further told the cast is having a great time filming the second season of the hit show. There’s sure to be plenty of drama on screen, but there’s none on set. This is a non-story designed to create a fake feud between two big stars.
It’s worth noting, the Daily Mail posted photos of the “Big Little Lies” cast meeting for dinner, and Witherspoon has a big smile on her face in all of the pictures. Despite the seemingly phony source claiming the actress was “really unfriendly” during the meal, it appears the opposite is true. The outlet even described Witherspoon as “typically smiley” in its article.
Meanwhile, Witherspoon gushed about Streep during an appearance on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” in March, saying she was in disbelief when she found out the actress had agreed to do the show. “I hugged myself gently for a minute and said, ‘This is really happening. You’re really working with Meryl Streep,'” she revealed. Witherspoon clearly has a lot of respect for the legendary actress, so the idea that she feels like she “wears the pants” isn’t remotely accurate.
Oddly enough, another tabloid previously tried to pit Streep against a different “Big Little Lies” co-stars. Earlier this year, Gossip Cop debunked a bogus story about Streep feuding with Kidman on the set of the HBO show. There was no truth to the story and the actress isn’t at odds with Witherspoon either.
