Pete Davidson Responds To Those Suggesting Mental Illness Will Make Him A Bad Boyfriend To Ariana Grande

Living FairyTail Ariana Grande and SNL’s Pete Davidson are reportedly dating each other at the moment. They’re possibly in deep enough to the point of getting matching tattoos. That might raise some eyebrows by, let’s say, those who look at Ariana and Pete and think they could pass for sister and brother (raises hand). But it sounds like many people haven’t been feeling Ariana dating Pete because of his mental health history. Pete has slapped back at those who think any diagnosis should prevent him from dating.

Last year, Pete admitted on SNL that he had disappeared for a while to get sober. He smoking a lot of weed, and decided to stop in an attempt to get mentally healthy. Six months later he admitted that it wasn’t just the weed that was making life hard for him, but a borderline personality disorder diagnosis. Pete said this of his diagnosis:

“Around October [or] September last year, I started having mental breakdowns where I would, like, freak out and then not remember what happened after. Blind rage. I never really did any other drugs, so I was like, ‘I’m gonna try to go to rehab. Maybe that’ll be helpful.’ They told me there, they’re like, ‘You might be bipolar,’ and I was like, ‘OK.'”

I guess a lot of Ariana fans were scared that dating Pete might not end well. E! News says that yesterday, Pete typed up a rebuttal in the Notes app and posted it to his Instagram Stories. Pete wrote:

“Normally I wouldn’t comment on something like this cause like fuck you. But I’ve been hearing a lot of ‘people with BDP can’t be in relationships’ talk. I just wanna let you know that’s not true. Just because someone has a mental illness does not mean they can’t be happy and in a relationship. It also doesn’t mean that person makes the relationship toxic. I just think it’s fucked up to stigmatize people as crazy and say that they are unable to do stuff that anyone can do. It’s not their fault and it’s the wrong way for people to look at things. I may be crazy but at least I’m aware of it and not afraid to be honest about it and I’m not hiding behind a Twitter or Instagram account.

I’m simply writing this because I want everyone out there who has an illness to know that it’s not true and that anyone who says that is ill and full of shit. Mental illness is not a joke it’s a real thing. There’s kids out there killing themselves. And it’s fucking horrific. For all those struggling I want you to know that I love you and I understand you and it is going to be okay. That’s all. Love to everyone else.”

I definitely don’t consider BPD to be a relationship deal breaker by any stretch of the imagination. Pete has said before that he helps to control his BPD with medication. I see no problem here. Well, maybe just one. How he’s going to explain himself if Ariana catches him cringing at her tiny sexy baby voice. Except that’s not a BPD emotional reaction; that’s just a natural reaction to hearing an adult woman talk like a Muppet Baby.
