Matt Damon and Ben Affleck did not have a “falling out” over Lindsay Shookus, despite a totally bogus tabloid report. Gossip Cop can exclusively debunk this claim. A rep for Damon tells us it’s false.

According to In Touch, however, Damon “can’t stand” Affleck’s girlfriend and it’s causing a major rift between the best friends of more than two decades. An alleged “insider” tells the magazine Damon believes the “Saturday Night Live” producer “is controlling and manipulative” and also doesn’t “measure up” to Jennifer Garner.

The outlet’s seemingly phony tipster further contends Damon believes Shookus is a bad influence on his friend “because she likes to drink and Ben shouldn’t be around that.” As the story goes, Damon’s supposed dislike of his buddy’s girlfriend has resulted in major fights between the two. “Matt’s bummed” adds the questionable source. “He hopes Ben eventually comes to his senses.”

There’s simply no truth to any of this. Just last month, Damon said Affleck is “like a brother” to him. The actor further explained how his friend helped him cope last year with the death of his father, who he said “had a great relationship” with Affleck as well. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Time wrote an article last year chronicling Damon and Affleck’s “bromance,” while E! News recently dedicated a piece to Damon and Affleck’s “enduring friendship.”

Regardless, Damon’s own spokesperson tells Gossip Cop on the record there’s no truth to In Touch’s article. Unfortunately, the false report was picked up by OK! and subsequently spread online. It’s worth noting, this bogus narrative about the longtime pals being at odds has been circulating for weeks now. This latest take on the subject just arbitrarily drags Shookus into the nonexistent drama.

Last week, Gossip Cop busted the National Enquirer for making up as story about Damon replacing Affleck with Chris Hemsworth as his new best friend. Affleck later retweeted our bust and joked, “Hey @chrishemsworth, you can have him! I’m Team @JimmyKimmel anyways.” There’s clearly no animosity between the close pals if the actor himself is poking fun at the ridiculous situation.

Meanwhile, Gossip Cop also recently called out RadarOnline for falsely claiming Damon “banned” Affleck from his life because his wife and professional advisors had instructed him to do so. There was no validity to that absurd scenario either. As for Damon’s alleged disapproval of Affleck’s relationship with Shookus, this premise is similarly fabricated.
