One year ago today, In Touch announced on its cover that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s marriage was “finally over” and that it had details about her alleged “$300 million divorce.” At the time, Gossip Cop reported that the story was “false.” It’s now been a full 12 months, and time and our sources have once again proven us right.
The tabloid maintained, “Just two months before their third anniversary, Kim Kardashian is pulling the plug on her marriage to Kanye West.” The magazine claimed the “breaking point” for the rapper was when the reality star opened up days earlier on “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” about her harrowing robbery in Paris. A seemingly made-up or misinformed “source” was quoted telling the publication that West “told Kim her experience was personal and warned her, ‘Do not exploit this for ratings.’ But she did anyway. She went directly against his wishes… They had a huge fight, and he stormed out.”
As a result of the alleged blowup, “Kim is seeking a divorce,” contended the tabloid’s “insider.” In no uncertain terms the magazine’s tipster said, “Kim knows the time is finally right for her to leave Kanye. She’s been talking to her lawyer, and divorce papers have been drawn up.” The outlet further asserted the couple had been “living separate lives” for some time and had “many issues before the robbery.” “While [Kardashian] can’t stand the idea of being humiliated by yet another divorce, she doesn’t want to live in a broken marriage either,” added the possibly manufactured “source.”
As we noted back then, prior to the “finally over” cover, In Touch had previously published and slew of totally untrue stories about the Wests divorcing. Regardless, Gossip Cop fact-checked the report and a rep for Kardashian told us exclusively at the time that the tabloid’s tale was 100 percent “false.” Of course, the Earth has traveled around the Sun since then, and magazine appears to remain in the dark about the couple, having published a few more falsehoods about the couple.
In the intervening 365 days, for example, Kardashian and West welcomed a baby girl via surrogate. And before that happy occasion, West and Kardashian rang in the New Year with a kiss. They also spent Christmas together as a family and celebrated Kardashian’s birthday with big smiles at a boisterous dinner with family and friends.
What Kardashian and West did not do in the past year is file for divorce. And what the tabloid noticeably didn’t do is apologize or issue a retraction for its verifiably wrong cover story. Until the magazine acknowledges its past article was more fiction than fact, it will be hard to trust the publication’s future reports about the couple.
