Kate Middleton never banned Prince William from traveling alone, despite an untrue report that came out last year. Now that 12 months have gone by, Gossip Cop is taking a look back to see how our bust held up over time. The verdict: Prince William is still making solo trips to other countries.
On March 31, 2017, we called out the National Enquirer for alleging Middleton had forbidden Prince William from traveling solo after he took a ski trip to Switzerland. Video and photos from the vacation showed the royal heir dancing in a night club, as well as talking to a woman during a group lunch. Some outlets at the time claimed Middleton was “disappointed” in Prince William’s behavior. The supermarket tabloid then moved the narrative forward by claiming she now intended to keep her husband on a “short leash.”
Describing Middleton as “furious,” a so-called “source” declared, “These boys-only skiing trips are a thing of the past.” The gossip magazine’s alleged tipster further asserted the Duchess of Cambridge “wears the trousers” in the marriage, and claimed “William will be made to pay” for his supposedly “humiliating” misdeeds. Consequently, the outlet maintained the Duke could “no longer travel alone.”
At the time, Gossip Cop was assured these claims were “false.” While Prince William’s activities did raise eyebrows for some, he never actually did anything entirely inappropriate. He was free to dance with his pals in a club if he wished, just as he was free to have a group lunch that happened to include a member of the opposite sex. The purported scandal was blown extremely out of proportion by the gossip media, and this publication in particular crafted an untrue angle.
Now 365 days later, it’s readily apparent that Middleton never actually forbid Prince William from traveling alone. A list of oversees trips made by the Duke of Cambridge shows that after this allegation was published, he went on to make solo visits to Belgium and Finland. His wife did not accompany him on either of those jaunts. It was also just announced earlier this month that Prince William will be taking a trip to the Middle East this summer. Middleton is not expected to join him then, either.
Of course, the royals are never really ever alone, even when they travel individually. As far back as 2000 it was reported that members of the monarchy are under 24-hour protection. Security always accompanies the royals on outings, whether they’re local or foreign. So not only are the National Enquirer claims easily disproven, but they don’t even make sense. The tabloid was wrong one year ago, and time has shown it remains wrong today.
