You could say John Legend is addicted to his phone.
Besides his witty Twitter banter with wife Chrissy Teigen, the singer just found a new way to win our hearts using just his cell. Days after singing his heart out on Jesus Christ Superstar Live, the singer debuted an innovative music video for his new single, “A Good Night.”
The video, which was filmed using 23 Google Pixel 2 phones, was directed by Mishka Kornai and features cameos from Jay Ellis, Yara Shahidi and Susan Kelechi Watson.
“The song and the video are about a magical night where you meet someone you immediately connect with and can envision a future together. You’re single, dating, probably using all the apps people use now … and not finding someone special,” he said in a Google interview. “But one night—maybe caught up in the music or the drinks or whatever—you meet someone that changes everything. That’s a good night!”

“The video is set in a club and visually represents the swiping left of the apps by literally swiping dating candidates away. But eventually our couple finds each other,” he continued. “We were fascinated by the idea of using a smartphone to film a big budget music video, a video that brings the smartphone dating experience to life,” the Grammy winner added.
John first premiered the visuals during a packed rooftop party at NeueHouse Hollywood Thursday, April 5. There, he also revealed his excitement for the upcoming birth of his second child — a baby boy — as well as his plans for a new album later this year.
“This song was the first thing I wrote when I got off tour,” he shared following the video’s debut. “My next album isn’t even done yet. But I wanted to put this out now for spring and summer to give people something to party to and feel good to.”
