Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez are not “headed for a split,” despite a claim. Gossip Cop can show how the couple’s relationship is still going strong. We can also explain how this false allegation is based on an old, debunked tabloid story.
On May 9, Gossip Cop busted Life & Style for inaccurately alleging Lopez was pressuring Rodriguez to propose. The story was sparked by the singer’s single, “El Anillo,” which is Spanish for “The Ring.” The song, which references Rodriguez’s baseball career, includes such lyrics as, “I have it all, but where’s the ring?” Based on that, the gossip magazine cited a so-called “source,” who claimed, “J. Lo hasn’t given A-Rod an ultimatum or anything, but she’s letting him know that she’s ready to walk down the aisle.” Lopez was even described as “impatient.”
But it was easy to prove the article was wrong. For starters, the songstress had already explained in interviews that she didn’t actually write the track. Rather, it was written for her by several others, who used her well-publicized romance with the athlete for inspiration. Furthermore, Lopez addressed the engagement speculation directly, saying in an interview, “We’re good right now. I’m not trying to rush into anything, I’ve done that before, to no avail.”
Now two and a half weeks have gone by, and Celebrity Insider is running the headline, “Jennifer Lopez And Alex Rodriguez Headed For A Split? Inside Her Demands For A Ring.” The website regurgitates the disputed print story, and asks, “Are the singer and future baseball Hall-of-Famer headed for a split if he doesn’t put a ring on it?” The blog goes on to contend, “The singer hasn’t confirmed the song is about her own life or relationship, but it is difficult not to speculate on who she is talking about.”
Actually, as noted above, Lopez has confirmed that the song is about her life and relationship with Rodriguez, but she made very clear that she is not responsible for the lyrical content. In the aforementioned interview, which was conducted for Beats 1, she recalled telling her beau, “I said, ‘Baby, it is about us! They wrote it for me to sing!'” And he gave his blessing for her to record and release it. Lopez also confirmed the ring lyrics shouldn’t be seen as reflective of her specific feelings in a chat with “Entertainment Tonight.”
“Listen, I didn’t write this song. Somebody wrote it for me specifically, which I thought was really funny. Not because I’m thinking of doing anything like this,” she said, adding, “So at the end of the day, it’s a great song with a Brazilian funk beat to it and I just loved it.” The gossip media, in this case Life & Style and Celebrity Insider, are reading too much into it while ignoring Lopez’s own on-the-record comments on the subject.
As for the contention that the couple may be headed for a split, just a week ago Rodriguez made his feelings for Lopez quite clear on Instagram. Calling her a “princess,” the former Yankees player wrote alongside a photo of his girlfriend, “Congratulations to this gorgeous woman, who once again killed it with her performance” at the Billboard Music Awards. His caption also included the hashtag, “#stunning.” And only a few days ago, Rodriguez posted on Instagram video of a joint workout session.
Conclusion: Celebrity Insider has taken an old, debunked tabloid story and is presenting it as new and factual. But Lopez’s own comments in interviews with multiple outlets show she is not making “demands for a ring,” nor should her song “El Anillo” be interpreted that way. Additionally, it is evident through Rodriguez’s own Instagram posts that he is committed to Lopez irrespective of an engagement, and they are not “headed for a split.” As such, Gossip Cop has determined this article is entirely false, which is why we rated it a zero out of 10.
