Jennifer Aniston Justin Theroux Divorce Nasty

Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux’s divorce is not getting “nasty,” despite a new tabloid cover story. Gossip Cop can bust this report. We’re told it’s a “fabrication.”

The latest cover of Star announces, “Jen & Justin: Explosive Showdown In Court, $400 Million Divorce Gets Nasty” (see above). The front of the issue is designed to make readers think the couple’s breakup will lead to a courtroom battle over their fortune. But inside the edition, it becomes clear the gossip magazine is combining two different topics, contending, “Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux may be headed for not only a nasty divorce but also a legal showdown over a mysterious death on their honeymoon.”

As widely reported last year, producer Joel Silver was sued in the wrongful death of his assistant, Carmel Musgrove, who died during a 2015 trip to Bora Bora. They were initially in the tropical locale for Aniston and Theroux’s group honeymoon. Though the actress and actor are not defendants in the case, the outlet is now alleging the tragedy “could throw a wrench into their plans to avoid each other forever, and force a face-to-face courtroom showdown.” It’s specifically claimed they may “be called to testify about their knowledge of the incident,” even though the publication admits Aniston and Theroux “left the island two days before Carmel died.”

The tabloid goes on to speculate that “testifying in Carmel’s case might be the first time Jen and Justin see each other since their split,” despite the fact that neither of them have acatually been named witnesses at this point in time. Nevertheless, a so-called “source” alleges “Jen and Justin will definitely have a hard time being cordial in person; they blame each other for their marriage failing and their divorce could end up being a $400 million battle.”

This isn’t the first time the magazine has presented such a cover story. Last August, months before the stars actually separated, Star also peddled an issue that alleged Aniston and Theroux were getting a divorce, with the relationship supposedly torpedoed by Musgrove’s death. Of course, they weren’t actually breaking up then, and the fatal drowning, though tragic, was not tearing them apart. Today, the spouses are estranged, but Silver’s lawsuit still has nothing to do with the state of their marriage.

Furthermore, if by some chance they are dragged into the legal battle, there is no real reason to believe they’d be anything but amicable towards each other. Just two weeks ago, People reported Aniston and Theroux “still talk all the time.” Nothing is “nasty” between them, and they have no intention of avoiding each other “forever.” In fact, a rep for Theroux exclusively tells Gossip Cop about this cover story, “It’s all a fabrication.”

It’s also worth remembering what Aniston and Theroux said in their separation statement: “Whatever else is printed about us that is not directly from us, is someone else’s fictional narrative.” That’s exactly what this story is.
