A new story claiming Jennifer Aniston is “furious” over “dating rumors” surrounding Selena Gomez and Justin Theroux was made-up, Aniston’s rep confirms to Gossip Cop exclusively. A certain website is merely pretending to know the “Friend” star’s feelings. But we’re told no real “source” connected to her actually shared such personal information.

On Wednesday, Life & Style published a cover story falsely claiming Gomez and Theroux have become “more than friends.” Through a careful investigation using information even fans themselves could uncover, Gossip Cop exposed the report as both manufactured and untrue. For example, the front of the magazine appeared to show Gomez and Theroux pictured together, but this was a photoshopped manipulation. The publication took a photo of Gomez from a November charity event, and digitally replaced the man with whom she posed with an unrelated image of Theroux that was snapped in September.

Additionally, while the tabloid’s anonymous and untraceable “insider” maintained a romance was brewing between the young singer and the older actor, more reputable outlets like “Entertainment Tonight” have reported that in the wake of Gomez’s recent split from Justin Bieber, she’s focused “on herself” and not interested in a relationship right now. Despite the obvious flaws in the narrative, HollywoodLife is now trying to continue the storyline by purporting to know Aniston’s reaction to the possibility Theroux and Gomez are dating.

According to the site’s supposed “exclusive details,” Aniston “can’t believe the dating rumors.” A so-called “source close to Jennifer” is quoted as saying in unnatural language, “Jennifer is upset over the dating rumors swirling around her ex and Selena.” It’s alleged the actress finds the possibility of a relationship between Theroux and Gomez “painful,” and it’s further claimed that she’s “hurt” at the idea “that Justin would move on already.” Oddly, though, after referring to Aniston as “Jennifer” in the first quote, the subsequent ones all reference “Jen.”

In another indication that these statements are bogus, the blog’s questionable insider goes on to assert, “From Emma Watson to Selena, Jen is furious over every picture she sees of her ex with another pretty face out in New York.” (See screengrab below.) But Theroux has not been linked to Emma Watson. Earlier this month, Theroux was seen out with Emma Stone. That flub indicates the website’s “source” isn’t too knowledgeable. Then there’s a logic issue: The outlet’s alleged tipster concludes by saying, “Jen won’t believe any of the rumors until she hears from Justin himself that he is involved in a new relationship.”

If that’s the case, why didn’t Aniston immediately reach out to Theroux, instead of having a “source close” to her discuss the situation with an online gossip publication? It makes little sense to contend Aniston is “mad” and wants to talk to Theroux, but instead someone in her inner circle leaked her personal feelings to a site that seemingly tries to exploit her on a regular basis. Perhaps needless to say, but with all of these issues, Gossip Cop was skeptical that someone legitimately connected to Aniston actually dished to the blog. Now her spokesperson exclusively tells us, “All of it is made-up, as usual.”

However she does or doesn’t feel about the bogus Gomez-Theroux tabloid story, the claims here aren’t real. That’s not surprising, given that HollywoodLies, as the website is nicknamed, regularly tries to fake-out fans with inauthentic stories related to hot topics. In fact, this same exact move was pulled in March, when the outlet claimed to know Aniston’s reaction to photos of Theroux with Aubrey Plaza. It was quite obvious then, as Gossip Cop explained at the time, how the story was made-up, much like this one.

When Aniston and Theroux announced they separated in February, they warned about “fictional narratives” being concocted about them, and the blog keeps proving them right. The publication has a very transparent modus operandi, and we’ll keep calling HollywoodLies out for it as necessary
