Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt never had a “secret reunion” a year ago, despite a report. Gossip Cop busted this untrue cover story 12 months ago. We’re now taking a look back to show how our debunking held up over time.
Back on March 17, 2017, Gossip Cop called out In Touch for a bait-and-switch cover and falsified article. The front of the issue touted a “secret reunion” for the exes, and teased “what Angelina walked in on” (see below). It was designed to give readers the impression that Angelina Jolie caught Pitt and Aniston together in person. But this was just to trick fans into reading the story, which was actually about Jolie supposedly once discovering Pitt talking to Aniston on the phone in the summer of 2016.
That was the purported “reunion.” And to make the piece seem timely, the gossip magazine alleged that Pitt and Aniston were now continuing to reunite by texting with each other. Gossip Cop still isn’t sure how communicating by phone counts as a “reunion.” But the piece was filled out with bogus claims about Aniston consoling Pitt over his split from Jolie, and it was even alleged the “Friends” star felt it was “vindication” for the way her own marriage to the actor ended. The outlet went on to assert, “Could Brad and Jen get back together after all these years? Anything is possible.”
Well, 365 days have gone by, and they haven’t gotten back together, even though Aniston has split from husband Justin Theroux. A reunion between Aniston and Pitt remains unlikely to this day, and the only reason this cover story was manufactured in the first place is because it was confirmed back then that Aniston and Pitt were occasionally, innocently texting. The publication seized on that kernel real information and combined it with a bunch of fake details. A rep for Aniston even exclusively told Gossip Cop at the time, “None of the In Touch story is true.”
It’s also worth noting that the same could be said of another big claim that was featured on the cover of that edition. As seen below, the tabloid also alleged there were “two babies on the way” for Jennifer Garner and Gwen Stefani. Gossip Cop busted those respective articles, too, and time has proven we were right. Neither Garner nor Stefani actually added to their family. And Aniston and Pitt still haven’t had a “reunion.” In Touch was wrong last year and remains wrong today.
