Hope Hicks, Trump’s Unofficial ‘Daughter,’ Admits Telling White Lies for the President: Report

She’s so close to President Donald Trump that she is said to have crafted tweets for him — and steamed his pants while they’re on his body. And now, the youngest-ever White House communications director in history has reportedly admitted to a House panel that she’s told white lies for her boss, who has his own complicated history with the truth.

On Tuesday, 29-year-old Hope Hicks told House investigators looking into Russian meddling into the 2016 presidential election that her work for the commander in chief occasionally requires her to massage the truth, according to The New York Times.

However, the publication reports that Hicks insisted in during the eight-hour, closed door meeting with the House Intelligence Committee that she never lied about issues related to Russia. The Times spoke to three sources, and said Hicks made that assertion after consulting with her lawyers.

Hicks, a onetime model who got close to the president after doing work for Ivanka Trump’s company, has quietly emerged as one of President Trump’s most loyal aides since he tapped her to become the press secretary of his burgeoning campaign in January 2015.

“Mr. Trump looked at me and said, ‘I’m thinking about running for president, and you’re going to be my press secretary,’ ” Hicks told New York magazine in 2016. “I think it’s ‘the year of the outsider.’ It helps to have people with outsider perspective.”

Since then, she has risen through the ranks as many Trump allies have resigned or been ousted. She was named White House communications director last year following Anthony Scaramucci’s brief-but-memorable tenure, and was a political novice before joining the Trump campaign and administration — although she has family ties to politics and public relations.

While Hicks has no social media presence, during the campaign she took dictation from Trump to tweet.

A former Trump campaign official told Town & Country that Hicks “does everything from big important conversations to getting a cup of coffee … or whatever it takes to make [Trump] succeed in the moment. She puts his success above her own.”

This includes steaming Trump’s pants while he was still wearing them — and receiving a scolding when she forgot the wrinkle-erasing device, according to a new tell-all book by former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, Let Trump Be Trump.

“When we landed, it was Hope’s job to steam him. ‘Get the machine!’ he’d yell,” Lewandowski wrote. “And Hope would take out the steamer and start steaming Mr. Trump’s suit, while he was wearing it! She’d steam the jacket first and then sit in a chair in front of him and steam his pants.”
