HollywoodLife is flip-flopping on “dating rumors” involving Halle Berry and Keanu Reeves. Ironically, after spreading fake news about the stars being in a relationship, the site is now claiming to know “the truth about their romance.” But Gossip Cop can reveal the real truth: The blog has once again been caught in a lie, exposing how it doesn’t have any legitimate sources.
On Wednesday, the website announced in a headline, “Halle Berry & Keanu Reeves Reportedly Dating After Filming New Movie Together.” Picking up a questionable Life & Style story that was published that same day, the online publication asserted about the co-stars, “Turns out there was love brewing on the ‘John Wick: Chapter 3’ set.” The outlet went on to contend they “started seeing each other before the movie started filming… but their love apparently grew when they got on set.”
Notably, this misinformation was published nearly 20 minutes after Gossip Cop debunked it. Since we took the time to fact-check instead of regurgitating the tabloid article, we were able to exclusively confirm that Berry and Reeves were NOT dating. In fact, in the course of our investigation, we learned that the actress had yet to shoot the vast majority of her John Wick scenes and had spent little time on set thus far, making the premise that a relationship had blossomed during production implausible.
So, what’s going on now? Well, HollywoodLies, as the site is nicknamed, is purporting to have “exclusive details” on what is or isn’t going on between Berry and Reeves. More than two full days after telling readers they were dating, the blog now quotes a so-called “insider” as saying that although the stars have “chemistry,” that hasn’t “led to any official dating or any type of relationship between the two.” The website even acknowledges that, as Gossip Cop already reported, “they’ve just started filming together.”
What the publication doesn’t acknowledge is that it is responsible for fueling this bogus romance rumor. Instead, the outlet puts all the blame on the tabloid, asserting, “This definitely contradicts previous reporting that the fellow actors first began dating before filming on the sequel even started, via Life & Style.” But these allegations came “via” HollywoodLies, too, which opted to spread the print story online before finding out whether it was accurate or not. Had the site done even a modicum of research on Google, it would’ve seen the tale had already been disputed.
That the blog is now claiming to know “the truth” more than two days after Gossip Cop set the record straight is not lost on us. This is not the first time the website has reversed course due to credible reporting from a reputable outlet. Just days ago, we pointed out how HollywoodLies flip-flopped on whether Kendall and Kylie Jenner were invited to their brother Brody’s wedding. First the publication touted an “exclusive” in which it was alleged the sisters hadn’t been invited. But just one day later, People confirmed that they had, in fact, been sent invitations.
So, much like with the Berry-Reeves situation now, the site then did a new story and pretended it never wrongly said the opposite before. Of course, if HollywoodLies really had sources on any of these stars, it would’ve had the right information all along. But the blog apparently rather score clicks from fake news and then serve up some Monday morning quarterbacking than have it all correct from the start.
