One year ago, it was falsely claimed Gwen Stefani was adopting a baby girl. Gossip Cop exclusively busted the story at the time. We’re now taking a look back at the bogus report to show just how out of touch a certain tabloid was.
We are, of course, referring to In Touch, which often seems to know very little about the celebrities who fill its pages. On March 17, 2017, Gossip Cop took note of the tabloid’s cover, which teased that there were “babies on the way” for both Stefani and Jennifer Garner (see below). The wording was designed to make readers think the women were both pregnant. In Stefani’s case, though, the actual article was about purported plans to adopt a child.
For the singer, a mother of three boys, the gossip magazine alleged being the mom of a daughter was her “No. 1 priority.” The outlet specifically alleged Stefani had placed a “secret call with an adoption agency,” and was now in the process of adopting a girl “before Christmas.” A so-called “insider” asserted she was already “daydreaming about names,” but curiously, the publication also contended that Stefani’s boyfriend, Blake Shelton, was “in the dark” about her plans.
The story alleged Stefani wanted to break the news during a “romantic dinner,” where she’d “present the entire adoption scenario” and he’d see “how excited she is.” As if that wasn’t suspicious enough, it was further claimed that the songstress was “telling friends” she wanted to keep everything “really private.” To be clear, the tabloid wanted readers to believe that not only was Shelton unaware of the adoption despite pals knowing about the plans, but those same “friends” were now leaking her intentions to the gossip media, even though it was all supposed to remain “private.”
It was all a bit far-fetched, to say the least, particularly considering this same magazine previously ran flat-out wrong reports about Stefani being pregnant. Sure enough, a rep for the No Doubt front woman confirmed to Gossip Cop that this was “untrue,” too. What’s more is that 365 days have now gone by, and it’s clear Stefani never actually pursued adopting a baby girl.
But in the last 12 months, the outlet’s reporting hasn’t gotten any better. Last November, the publication was also mistaken when it alleged Stefani had a “baby on the way,” and this month it has been inaccurately insisting she and Shelton have broken up. In actuality, they’re still together, and Stefani and Shelton were seen together in Greensboro only a week ago, where she was supporting her boyfriend on tour.
As for Garner having a baby, well, In Touch was also wrong about her calling off her divorce and having a fourth child with Ben Affleck. One year later, Garner and Affleck are still not back together, and they never ever expanded their family. Like Gossip Cop said above, the tabloid has been quite out of touch.
