Erykah Badu Says Hitler Wasn’t So Bad, He Was a Great Painter
January 24, 2018Erykah Badu Says Hitler Wasn’t So Bad, He Was a Great Painter
Erykah Badu was a popular singer like 20 years ago. She hasn’t released an album in eight years. She did have a mixtape a couple of years ago. Her 1997 album Baduizm re-releases in February and she continues to tour because people love nostalgia. I have no clue why anyone would care to interview her in 2018.
But, Vulture decided to interview her.
She talks about the current state of music and hip-hop, but no one cares about that. People are focusing on what she said about Bill Cosby and Hitler.
Because I love Bill Cosby, and I love what he’s done for the world. But if he’s sick, why would I be angry with him? The people who got hurt, I feel so bad for them. I want them to feel better, too. But sick people do evil things; hurt people hurt people.
Yeah, that’s one way of looking at it. Bill Cosby is just sick and hurt. So of course he would drug and rape women. When I’m sick, I typically lay in bed and eat a lot of soup. When I’m hurt, I go to the doctors. But I guess drugging and raping works.
I saw something good in Hitler.
Come again?
Yeah, I did. Hitler was a wonderful painter. No, he wasn’t! And even if he was, what would his skill as a painter have to do with any “good” in him?
Okay, he was a terrible painter. Poor thing. He had a terrible childhood. That means that when I’m looking at my daughter, Mars, I could imagine her being in someone else’s home and being treated so poorly, and what that could spawn. I see things like that. I guess it’s just the Pisces in me.
Hey, it’s cool to try and wipe out an entire race if you’re a good painter or had a terrible childhood.
I’m sure Badu believes everything she is saying, but I always feel that people who say, “Hitler wasn’t all bad,” are just looking for attention. Well, she got it. Someone did a whole interview with her even though she’s not exactly relevant and many sites, this one included, will run stories on her comments about Hitler and Cosby.
I’ll never listen to an Erykah Badu album the same way again.
