Did Beyonce get lip injections? One year ago today, a report falsely claimed the superstar enhanced her lips while pregnant with twins Rumi and Sir, but it wasn’t true. On May 4, 2017, Gossip Cop busted MediaTakeOut when it wrongly accused Beyonce of getting cosmetic procedures while expecting.
Exactly 12 months ago, the website speculated that Beyonce had lip injections while pregnant. In a highly sensational headline, the blog wrote, “Something Weird Is Going On With Beyonce’s Face… Looks Like She Got Kylie Jenner Lip Injections… Cause Her Lips Are Gigantic!” Without a single source to back up its claim, the outlet wrote, “We’ve heard of your nose growing during pregnancy… but can it happen to your lips too?? That’s what Beyonce would like us to think.”
While MTO expressed doubt about it being possible and essentially accused Beyonce of lying, that’s exactly what happened. As Gossip Cop noted at the time, the singer did not get injections, but instead her lips were swollen as a side effect of the pregnancy. It’s clear the online publication wasn’t aware that some women experience swelling during pregnancy due to water retention, and that it occurs in several places, including one’s face. And had the blog done even the most minor fact-checking, it would have realized that plastic surgeons won’t give women lip fillers because its affects are unknown and potentially dangerous.
Beyonce certainly wasn’t the first woman to notice her lips swell during pregnancy. Nor was she the only celebrity. Back in 2013, Kim Kardashian showed off her plump “pregnancy lips” on Twitter while carrying North West.
Shortly after the site alleged Beyonce underwent the cosmetic procedure, Gossip Cop quickly debunked it. In fact, in an exclusive statement to us, Beyonce’s rep Yvette Noel-Schure slammed the false lips injections claim. Addressing MediaTakeOut, she said, “What do you know about the effects of pregnancy on a woman’s entire body?”
Noel-Schure continued in a direct takedown of MTO staffers, “Did you know that in addition to weight gain there is often a dramatic change in the blood flow in the system and increased fluid causing swelling? Do you know that often women’s gums get swollen?” Beyonce’s spokesperson continued, “The sacrifice to our faces, our feet and our entire bodies is something we welcome because we bring beautiful humans into the world who will one day combat your hate and negativity.” “You are the saddest individuals and picking on a pregnant lady is tantamount to possessing the coldest, despicable heart,” concluded the rep.
The reason Gossip Cop looks back from time to time at untrue tales from the year before is to prove who’s fact-checking and who’s simply making up fiction. It’s now been 365 days since MediaFakeOut posted its bogus story, and just as bad as falsely accusing Beyonce of getting lip injections while pregnant, the website still hasn’t published a correction or retraction. We hope in the coming year that the outlet injects a little more reporting into its articles.
