Were Christina Aguilera and Demi Lovato really caught in a power struggle while preparing for their performance of “Fall In Line” at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards on May 20? That’s the latest claim coming from one of this week’s tabloids, but Gossip Cop can exclusively set the record straight. We’re told talk of them being divas with one another is “untrue” and “sexist.”

According to OK!, the “stage almost wasn’t big enough” for Aguilera and Lovato, who were “bent on outdoing each other” at this year’s Billboard Music Awards, which were held at Las Vegas’s MGM Grand Garden Arena. A so-called “source” is quoted telling the tabloid, “Christina is more than a decade older than Demi and clearly thought she should be calling the shots,” adding, “But while Demi respects Christina, she wasn’t going to be told what to do.” The magazine’s supposed “insider” further alleges both women “tried to out-sing the other” during rehearsals. “In the end, it worked, but they may not want to perform together anytime soon. It’s a miracle they both turned up,” contends the publication’s “source.”

But the assertion that Aguilera and Lovato were “duetting divas” leading up to this year’s Billboard Music Awards is nothing short of a lie. Four days before they sang “Fall In Lone” together at the awards ceremony, Aguilera posted on Instagram a photo of her and Lovato with a message that read, “I believe our paths were destined to cross and I am so proud to come together from the pasts we’ve overcome; to the strong women we are today!” She further gushed, “You are truly a GEM, I have immense love and respect for you! You are an inspiration for future young girls of your generation. Beautiful work!”

Before taking to the stage, Lovato shared on Instagram that collaborating with Aguilera was a “bucket list” item checked off and she further expressed, “It’s such an honor to lend my voice to this anthem for women with one of the most inspiring individuals I’ve ever met.” Hours before their performance, Lovato even reiterated on Instagram, “Nothing but excitement to share the stage with this legend.” And following their live duet at the Billboard Music Awards, Lovato thanked Aguilera on social media for collaborating with her on the track. She wrote in a yet another Instagram post that followed them walking together backstage, “Love you @xtina ps. I’m not crying, you are.”

Conclusion: We will take the words of Aguilera and Lovato themselves over the publication’s unnamed alleged “source.” Contrary to the tabloid’s untraceable and possibly nonexistent tipster, the two women made it very clear how much they “love and respect” each other and what an “honor” it was to work together. And for those reasons, Gossip Cop is giving the story a 0.

While the magazine’s premise about them being “duetting divas” in a power struggle at the Billboard Music Awards is provably wrong, Gossip Cop still reached out to the singers’s reps. A spokesperson for Aguilera felt, “This is so sexist. Two women can’t work together without making it a power struggle?” Additionally, Lovato’s spokesperson also assured us the publication’s story was 100 percent untrue.
