Are Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas fighting over their 15-year-old daughter Carys’ supposed obsession with Kendall and Kylie Jenner? That’s the ridiculous claim in one of this week’s tabloids. A rep for the actor, however, tells Gossip Cop it’s completely false.
According to Star, Douglas and Zeta-Jones have been “at each other’s throats” over their teenage daughter’s modeling aspirations, as the actor feels she’s too young to get into the industry, but his wife thinks their daughter should pursue her dream. The main point of contention, according to an alleged source, is Carys’ wish to have the Jenner sisters “mentor her in modeling.”
The outlet’s questionable source adds that Douglas “thinks their daughter should consider going to college, rather than chasing modeling contracts and attending parties,” but Zeta-Jones has no problem with her daughter’s passion. As the story goes, the actress does agree with her husband on one thing, that Carys hopefully won’t “morph into a Kardashian copycat.”
This entire article is based on information from an anonymous, untraceable and seemingly nonexistent “source,” but Douglas’ own spokesperson tells Gossip Cop on the record it’s “total fiction.” In fact, this story seems to have been concocted simply to capitalize on Zeta-Jones bringing Carys to the Dolce & Gabbana Fashion Show in New York City earlier this month.
Carys also attended a New York Fashion Week show last year, at which time E! News asked the teen about her modeling aspirations. “This is my first show so I’ll see what happens,” she responded. “I definitely see it in my future, I just don’t know about right now.” She went on to joke, “Actress, model, brain surgeon… we’ll see.” It doesn’t exactly sound like Douglas and Zeta-Jones’ daughter is “obsessed” with modeling, considering she’s not actively pursuing it at the moment. Also, Carys is quite active on social media, but none of her posts indicate she’s at all infatuated with the Jenner sisters.
It’s also worth noting, Gossip Cop has already debunked a variation on this bogus narrative. Last October, we called out Star’s sister publication, OK!, for making up a similar story about Douglas and Zeta-Jones fighting over their daughter’s modeling aspirations. This time around, the Jenner sisters have been thrown into the mix, but the premise is no more true now than it was seven months ago. To say these tabloids are not exactly models of accuracy is an understatement.
