Brian DePalma Is Making A Harvey Weinstein-Themed Horror Movie
June 3, 2018Brian DePalma, who gave us Carrie, The Untouchables, and one of the greatest films of all time – Femme Fatale – says he’s in the process of making a Harvey Weinstein-themed horror movie. Too soon? You have to wonder where all these suddenly expressive people were when this grossness was an open secret in Hollywood? When Courtney Love is the only whistleblower…
French daily Le Parisien (via Deadline) reports that the director, famed for his split-screen suspense scenes, is supposedly writing a screenplay based on the activities of the poster swine for the #MeToo movement. The last thing anyone needs is a Horrific Harvey stand-in nude and asking an aspiring actress to help him pick out an outfit on one side of the screen and testing the buttons on his tux while glad-handing with Matt Damon and Russell Crowe stand-ins at a premiere on the other. Blech.
The director of Carrie, Blow Out and Dressed To Kill told Le Parisien that he’s working on a screenplay for an unnamed French producer. “My character won’t be named Harvey Weinstein, but it will be a horror film, with a sexual aggressor, and it will take place in the film industry,” De Palma said.
Is this something we need as a people, Brian and Ryan Murphy? Weinstein finally recently turned himself in to the NYPD and was booked on charges of rape and sexual abuse after allegedly sexually harassing and abusing women in the entertainment industry for decades. We need a rehash of this?
In recent years, DePalma hasn’t exactly been the sought-after auteur that he was in the past. His most recent film is reportedly still seeking a distributor. This is the guy that gave us Michael Caine stylishly giving cross-dressers a bad name and Robert DeNiro as Al Capone with a baseball bat. Times are tough! So, perhaps this unnecessary (at least at this time) flick won’t even get off the ground. (Except maybe in France?)
A “Harvey Weinstein horror movie” just seems redundant.
