Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner never renewed their vows, one year after a report claiming the estranged spouses were getting back together. Gossip Cop exclusively debunked the claim this time last year. Time has proven it to be false.
On April 6, 2017, Life & Style wrongly reported that Affleck and Garner had reunited and were planning a vow renewal ceremony for their 12th wedding anniversary on June 29. We immediately shot down the story after a reliable insider assure us there was “no truth” to it. Of course, no such ceremony took place that June.
However, the magazine asserted at the time that the supposed vow renewals would occur “someplace beachy like Mexico” and be attended by “their friends and close family.” Exactly one week after this tall tale was published, Affleck and Garner officially filed for divorce. Around two months later, Affleck started dating “Saturday Night Live” producer Lindsay Shookus, and the two are still together.
Meanwhile, Affleck and Garner continued to be cordial and successfully co-parent their three kids together. That dynamic remains the same, but a romantic reconciliation obviously never happened, let alone a second wedding. Once it became clear that the actor and his estranged wife weren’t getting back together, Life & Style decided to make up stories about his relationship with Shookus instead.
In November, Gossip Cop busted the tabloid for wrongly reporting that Affleck and Shookus were “secretly engaged.” The outlet’s sister publication, In Touch, then reversed course one week later and alleged that the actor had dumped his girlfriend and had reunited with Garner again. Obviously, that didn’t happen either. The unreliable magazine most recently made up a story about Affleck’s estranged wife and his girlfriend having an “awkward run-in” in Hawaii, but that never transpired. The two women weren’t even on the island at the same time.
Time has proven to be an enemy of the tabloids, but it’s a friend of ours. Unfortunately, whenever a gossip magazine’s false narrative doesn’t pan out, the outlet typically ignores having ever reported it. But Gossip Cop remembers, particularly this phony old story about Affleck and Garner’s nonexistent vow renewal ceremony.
