Anna Wintour Could Be Out At Vogue As Early As This Weekend

Last month, there was a rumor that the interns of American Vogue would no longer cower in fear that the latte they fetched for Anna Wintour was 0.05 degrees too cold. Anna Wintour was reportedly getting shoved out of her editor-in-chief role and replaced with Vogue UK editor Edward Enninful sometime this summer. The new rumor from Life & Style is that Anna’s last day at Vogue will be this week.
Word was that Anna was waiting until the July marriage of her daughter Bee Shaffer before she stepped away from Vogue and her position as artistic director of Condé Nast. But a source says that Anna will be done before Memorial Day. The source says that Edward Enninful has been seen in the NYC office recently. And it doesn’t sound like Anna’s last day will be a joyous celebration filled with zero-calorie champagne and a decorative farewell cake that no one will touch. Life & Style’s source claims that Anna is being “forced out.”
“Everyone at Condé knows Anna’s days are numbered,” an insider says. “Top editors are just waiting for her to finally grab her Birkin bag and leave so they can stop pretending to care about what she says and thinks.”
There’s also a nervous mood around the Condé Nast offices because people are allegedly afraid of being the next on the chopping block.
“Anna’s being blamed for a lot of the problems. Rumor has it that Brides is about to be closed after 84 years. Everyone is worried about other titles being shuttered once Edward takes over.”
Anna’s been at Condé Nast for 35 years and the editor-in-chief at Vogue for 30, so it might appear that any exit would be seen as a choice to retire. But according to the source, Anna is getting the boot because she “couldn’t keep up with the times anymore.” What? No. Don’t tell me a woman who’s hair style predates New Coke and The McDLT can’t keep up with the times, because I refuse to believe it. It’s just too bad that she couldn’t get an extra month in to do something really big and important. I don’t care how cold or reptile-like you are, those cringey 73 Questions videos shouldn’t be anyone’s end-of-career legacy.
