Angelina Jolie did not “collapse” in a “meltdown” over rumors Brad Pitt is dating, despite a tabloid report that’s now spreading online. Gossip Cop can bust this story. We’ve learned there’s no truth to it.
This report, which originated in Star and was regurgitated online by HollywoodLife, claims that upon learning Pitt is dating Neri Oxman, Jolie “flew into such a rage that she collapsed.” Both the gossip magazine and website quote a supposed source as saying, “She was ranting one minute and then the next, she just sort of crumpled.” This alleged tipster goes on contend the actress finds it “galling that Brad has managed to keep his connection with Neri hush-hush for months.”
It’s also alleged that the “jealous and competitive” Jolie “wanted to be the first one to start a hot new relationship,” and it “could be humiliating” if “it turns out that Brad beat her to the punch.” Notably, the blog adds, “Though, when it comes to her reportedly being ‘humiliated’ at being ‘beaten to the punch,’ there were reports that Angie actually found love first.”
There’s so many flaws here, Gossip Cop almost isn’t sure where to begin, but we’ll start with this: Though it was alleged she was seeing a real estate agent, Jolie is not actually dating anyone at the moment. If the website had real insight, as it so often purports, it would know that. Furthermore, if HollywoodLies was knowledgeable and actually did research, it would know that the allegations in this tabloid tale don’t make sense.
Not only are Pitt and the MIT professor just friends, as Page Six originally reported and Gossip Cop confirmed with the actor’s rep, but they haven’t actually kept anything “hush-hush.” Pitt’s November visit to MIT may only be getting mainstream media attention over the last few weeks, but there was nothing secret about it. In fact, photos of his meeting with Oxman and students were posted on social media at the time it took place.
Additionally, People reported exactly a year ago that Pitt was casually dating again in the wake of his split from Jolie. But now 12 months later Jolie is collapsing and melting down over the prospect? That makes little sense. It’s also illogical to contend she’s upset over rumors in the gossip media that Pitt is seeing Oxman when she needn’t rely on tabloids and blogs to find out what’s really going on. Given that Pitt and Jolie are amicably working on a divorce settlement and are co-parenting six kids together, she can very easily find out from him directly or through those close to him that he’s not, in fact, in a relationship with Oxman.
When looked at closely, it’s obvious this narrative — Jolie is melting down over Pitt dating Oxman, even though he’s been casually dating people for a year and she can find out from him that there isn’t actually any romance with the professor — is implausible. Perhaps if HollywoodLies did some investigating before copying this questionable Star report, it would’ve realized that the magazine’s unsupported claims are irrational and absurd. In fact, a Jolie confidante, who wasn’t authorized to speak on the record, even tells Gossip Cop the storyline is “ridiculous.”
