This Gillian Flynn adaptation is a dream team of collaborators, with Jean-Marc Vallée ("Big Little Lies") directing and Jason Blum ("Get Out") producing.
Amy Adams is a haunted journalist investigating a murder in the first trailer for HBO limited series "Sharp Objects."
Adapted from the bestselling Gillian Flynn novel, "Sharp Objects" follows a reporter who returns to her Missouri hometown to investigate the murders of two preteen girls, all while trying to put together a psychological puzzle from her past.
The eerie teaser, that debuted during the "Westworld" Season 2 premiere Sunday night, shows Adams putting together pieces of the murder case while perhaps identifying with the young victims a little too closely, as memories from her younger self (played by "It" star Sophia Lillis) haunt her in the present.
The chilling trailer ends with a child whispering, "It’s not safe for you here," as Camille emerges out of a bathtub, gasping for air.
The eight-episode series also stars Patricia Clarkson as Adam's mother, in addition to Chris Messina, Eliza Scanlen, Elizabeth Perkins, Matt Craven, Henry Czerny, Taylor John Smith and Madison Davenport.
This is Flynn's third murder-mystery novel to be adapted for the screen. 2014's "Gone Girl" earned star Rosamund Pike an Oscar nomination. However, 2015 thriller "Dark Places," starring Charlize Theron and Nicholas Hoult, went straight to video on demand.

Our hopes are high for this project, though. Jean-Marc Vallée ("Big Little Lies") is directing and producing with Jason Blum ("Get Out"), Adams and Flynn, so there's no shortage of reasons to give this show a shot.
"Sharp Objects" premieres in July on HBO.
