Alex Rodriguez Pressured To Get Jennifer Lopez On ‘Sunday Night Baseball’?

ESPN is not pressuring Alex Rodriguez to get Jennifer Lopez to join “Sunday Night Baseball,” despite a made-up tabloid report. Gossip Cop can exclusively correct this story. A rep for the former Yankees star tells us there’s no truth to it.

Rodriguez became a commentator on the weekly MLB series earlier this year, but viewership has been off to a slow start. According to the National Enquirer, the network wants to boost ratings by having his famous girlfriend become a regular on the show. “Producers are hoping Jennifer can save the day,” a so-called “source” tells the magazine.

The outlet’s questionable insider adds, “J.Lo is a ratings machine, and when she’s around, Alex loosens up. They hired a top media trainer for him, but Alex is just not connecting with viewers.” But regardless of viewership being down this season, ESPN hasn’t proposed that Lopez join the show.

The magazine’s article is based on an anonymous and untraceable “source,” but Rodriguez’s own spokesperson tells Gossip Cop on the record that it’s false. The ex-MLB payer’s rep laughed off the story, before saying, “To do what? Play-by-play?” Considering that Lopez is an actress and singer, not a sports commentator and baseball expert, that’s a very salient point.

It’s possible this article was concocted because Lopez visited Rodriguez in the broadcast booth on opening day back in March. The singer gave her boyfriend a kiss for good luck and then went on her way. The singer’s impromptu drop-in, coupled with the show’s dwindling ratings, may have inspired the outlet’s phony story. Regardless of how the tabloid conceived the premise, it’s entirely false.

Additionally, Lopez is relaunching her Las Vegas residency, which will take place from June to September at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. It would be impossible for the singer to join “Sunday Night Baseball” even if ESPN execs were pursuing her, which they’re not. None of our contacts at the TV network had any knowledge of Lopez being asked to join the show.

Oddly enough, the Enquirer previously came up with a bogus story about the former baseball player getting into his girlfriend’s line of work.
