Kourtney Kardashian is getting into politics.

The reality star visited Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. this Tuesday, April 24, speaking with congressional leaders about the importance of making changes in safety guidelines concerning the cosmetic industry. Teaming up with Environmental Working Group President Ken Cook, the 39-year-old testified at a briefing for Senate staffers to support the Personal Care Products Safety Act — a piece of legislation that will give Food and Drug Administration more power to regulate ingredients used in beauty products.

“Kourtney Kardashian says that as a mom it’s important for her to know what’s in the personal care products she uses,” NBC Washington’s Jennifer Vasquez tweeted from the meeting. “She’s calling for new legislation that will give cosmetic companies a guideline of how much of a certain chemical they can use.”

During the talk, Kourtney revealed she became an advocate for clean living after realizing there was a presence of toxic chemicals in her three children’s baby-care products. She said she since started taking a closer look at what went into the makeup and lotions she used on herself.

“When it comes to products I use on my kids, I don’t play around,” she said. “Everyone should have the right to healthy products and personal care and that’s why I wanted to come and make this a bigger deal.”

“The fact that we have to guess so much — we shouldn’t be walking around going, ‘is this okay?’” she continued. “It’s time for Congress to do its job.”
