Meghan Markle in Emilia Wickstead on Anzac Day: flattering & somber?

As we discussed earlier, today is Anzac Day, a day of commemoration for the Australian and New Zealand troops who fought in Gallipoli during World War I. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle got the assignment to attend the dawn-service. Harry was also tasked with laying a wreath at the Cenotaph, and then a few hours later, Harry, William and Meghan stepped out for another commemoration service, this time at Westminster Abbey. William greeted his future sister-in-law with warmth: he put his arm around her and kissed her cheek in greeting.

For this appearance, Meghan changed out of that not-great beige-y coat. She wore an Emilia Wickstead suit, I guess that’s what we’re calling it. It seems to be two pieces: a cropped jacket and a long skirt, both in textured black fabric. This is very flattering to her figure, actually. I think if we saw Meghan in real life, we would be surprised by her proportions and her frame – I think she’s a very small woman and she seems like she’s “all legs.” That might explain why she errs on the side of wearing longer skirts too, to make her look more proportional. Plus, she wants to look conservative, in general. Her hat is Philip Treacy. All of it works. I’m fine with this.
