Kate Hudson Having Twins?
April 18, 2018(OK Magazine)
Is pregnant Kate Hudson having twins? That’s what a new tabloid cover story claims. But Gossip Cop has rounded up evidence that debunks the allegation.
The new issue of OK! declares on its cover that Hudson and boyfriend Danny Fujikawa are expecting “twin girls.” The article highlights Hudson’s April 6 Instagram post in which she announced she was pregnant with a “baby girl,” and claims she was “treated to more good news” shortly after. A so-called “insider” alleges, “Word is, a subsequent ultrasound revealed she’d be welcoming not one daughter, but two!” Continues this supposed source, “It was a huge surprise, but she and Danny are completely over the moon.”
The gossip magazine and its purported tipster go on to allege Hudson has “already started decorating the nursery with, of course, ‘two of everything — cribs, changing stations, mobiles, you name it.'” It’s further asserted that the actress has been “full of energy at the mere thought of having twins.” The “insider” contends, “She made no secret of the fact that she’s always yearned for a little girl. But discovering that you’re expecting two of them with the man of your dreams? She couldn’t imagine a more perfect scenario.”
It almost sounds like a fairy tale. In fact, there’s a lot of evidence indicating this story is tabloid fantasy, not fact. First of all, the use of the phrase “word is” suggests that the publication’s “insider” doesn’t have direct knowledge or confirmation of this “subsequent ultrasound” that supposedly revealed Hudson is carrying twins. That is terminology these magazines use again and again in made-up reports when they want to make a claim but simultaneously distance itself from the allegation.
Second, the timing of these contentions is quite off. When Hudson announced in early April that she was having a “baby girl,” she revealed she was out of her first trimester. That means she was at least 12 weeks along. At such time, she likely would’ve already known whether she was pregnant with one baby or two. As detailed by a doctor in this Parents article about expecting twins, “Today, twins can usually be diagnosed as early as six to seven weeks of the pregnancy.” It makes little sense to claim Hudson is carrying two babies, but didn’t find out until a “subsequent ultrasound” after her first trimester had ended.
Furthermore, just two days ago, Hudson shared on Instagram a photo of Steven Tyler cradling her bump, and wrote in the caption, “Baby girl got some good hugs from Papa Tyler this weekend.” That’s “baby girl” singular, as in just one child. Also, when Erin Foster, whom the outlet rightly notes is her best friend and Fujikawa’s stepsister, recently spoke about Hudson to publications like People, she specifically said of the couple, “Now they’re having a baby.” Again, that’s proof of there being just one kid on the way, not two.
So while OK! is peddling illogical and unsubstantiated claims about “twin girls” from an unnamed “insider” who only supposedly knows what the “word is,” Hudson and her close pal/pseudo-relative are both on the record making it clear that she’s pregnant with just one baby. In the interest of full transparency, Gossip Cop must note that a rep for the star did not respond to our request for comment on this cover story. But time will tell the truth.
