Kelly Ripa, Michael Strahan Will NOT Have “Awkward Run-In” At Daytime Emmys

Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan will not have an “awkward run-in” at the Daytime Emmys, contrary to stories about the former “Live” colleagues crossing paths at the awards show later this month. Gossip Cop can exclusively debunk the untrue claims. Ripa won’t be attending the Daytime Emmys, which she hasn’t gone to in more than a decade.

This false rumor about the former pals having to see each other again was started by Life & Style, which features an article in its latest issue with the headline, “Kelly’s Coming Face-To-Face With Michael.” According to the ill-informed tabloid, an “awkward reunion is looming” because Ripa and new co-host Ryan Seacrest are nominated for Daytime Emmys, as is Strahan, and “all are expected to attend.” A so-called “friend” is quoted as saying, “Kelly knows everyone will be on high alert to see how she reacts to Michael at the awards.”

But a rep for Ripa confirms exclusively to Gossip Cop that the talk show host won’t be at the upcoming event, which is slated to take place in Pasadena on April 29. Had the gossip magazine bothered to do some research, it would’ve learned that the star hasn’t attended a Daytime Emmy Awards ceremony in roughly 15 years. Indeed, Getty Images shows Ripa was last pictured at the Daytime Emmys in 2003.

Since then, Ripa has won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Talk Show Host in 2011, 2012, 2015 and 2016, yet she didn’t appear at any of those ceremonies. Clearly it is illogical, then, to assume she’s attending this year simply because she’s nominated again. A source close to the situation, who commented on the condition of anonymity, tells Gossip Cop, “Kelly hasn’t been to the Emmys in 15 years. This is another classic [B.S.] story.” And if the outlet really had a “friend” or any insider legitimately close to Ripa, it would’ve known that.

Foolishly, HollywoodLife ran with the publication’s provably false story, wondering in a typo-ridden headline, “Will Kelly Ripa Suffer Though Awkward Run-In With Michael Strahahn At Daytime Emmys?” The site alleges the one-time co-hosts will both “be in the house” at the awards show, and claims Ripa is “dreading a run-in.” The blog further asserts she “planning on handling the whole situation with grace and like a professional.” On top of that, the website contends “Kelly has two secret weapons, though, who can shield her from a potential awkward run-in,” namely Seacrest and her husband, Mark Consuelos.

While Gossip Cop has no doubt Ripa would act professionally and be graceful, she doesn’t need any “secret weapons” because, as noted above, she won’t be at the Emmys, just like she wasn’t last year or the year before or the year before that. Instead of fact-checking, HollywoodLies fully earned its nickname here by regurgitating the inaccurate speculation about Ripa and Strahan “coming face-to-face.” Since initially publishing its mistaken report , though, the site has tried to cover up its misstep by redirecting the post to an entirely unrelated article from March 26 about Consuelos sharing an Instagram photo of Ripa in a bikini.
