Another Hollywood couple has called it quits.
Just when you thought love is alive and well, it’s been revealed Chris Evans and on-again, off-again girlfriend Jenny Slate have parted ways.
In the Avengers star’s latest New York Times profile, writer Reggie Ugwu shared that the couple had broken up for a second time. When speaking with the 36-year-old about Rebecca Solnit’s The Mother of All Questions, the reporter noted, “Mr. Evans read it while dating the actress Jenny Slate (their on-again, off-again relationship, beloved by the internet, recently ended) and decided that he needed to listen more and speak less.”
While the actor did not personally comment on the relationship, he did say, “The hardest thing to reconcile is that just because you have good intentions, doesn’t mean it’s your time to have a voice” when talking about his outspoken nature.

Chris and Jenny, 35, surprised fans when they first began dating in 2016 after meeting on the set of Gifted. The two parted ways in February 2017, but reconciled later that year when Chris was filming Avengers: Infinity War in Atlanta.
When they had split the first time, Jenny opened up about dating someone whose exes included Jessica Biel and Minka Kelly. “To be quite honest, I didn’t think I was his type. Eventually, when it was like, ‘Oh, you have these feelings for me?’, I was looking around like, ‘Is this a prank?'” the Saturday Night Live alum told New York magazine, explaining how she’s “considered some sort of alternative option” in Hollywood. “I mean, I understand why I think I’m beautiful, but if you’ve had a certain lifestyle and I’m a very, very different type of person—I don’t want to be an experiment.”

That spring, Chris told USA Today, “You know, relationships are tricky. There are lot of moving pieces. But I am endlessly grateful for having met her. She will be in my life always.”
“You find that you cannot help to have respect for her,” he added. “You spend five minutes with her and you cannot find something bad to say about her if you tried.”
Sigh. It looks like they’re back to being friendly exes.
