Demi Lovato Did Not Get Engaged, Despite Report A Year Ago

Demi Lovato did not get engaged, despite a false report from a year ago that unsuccessfully guessed she was heading down the aisle with MMA fighter Guilherme “Bomba” Vasconcelos. At the time, Gossip Cop exclusively corrected the phony claim. Now, exactly 12 months later, we’re looking back at the fabricated story that was seemingly based on nothing more than Lovato wearing a ring in a social media post.

The made-up report was concocted by none other than HollywoodLife, a site so well-known for its fake news that it’s often called HollywoodLies. The not entirely reliable blog published a piece titled, “Demi Lovato Engaged To Guilherme Vasconcelos? She’s Wearing A Massive Sparkler.” The website’s supposed evidence was that “Lovato can be seen wearing a big diamond [band] on her ring finger” on Snapchat (see below).

At the time, Gossip Cop checked in with a mutual friend of ours and the singer’s and we were exclusively assured Lovato was not engaged to Vasconcelos. We were also told the ring didn’t even come from him. It’s been a full 365 days since HollywoodLies manufactured that story and it should be abundantly clear the untrustworthy blog was wrong. Not only didn’t the MMA fight pop the question to Lovato, but also about six weeks later, Lovato and Vasconcelos split up.

Additionally, since it was a Snapchat photo that Lovato took of herself, there was a mirror effect and the ring was actually on the singer’s right hand. It’s clear the diamond band was on her right hand because one can easily see underneath Lovato’s wrist her tattoo of a cross. And that particular ink is not on her left hand.

As Gossip Cop pointed out a year ago, HollywoodLies likes speculating far more than fact-checking. Back in October 2014, the repeatedly discredited site ran a headline, “Demi Lovato & Wilmer Valderrama Secretly Married? Matching Rings — Pics” (see below). The outlet further blathered, “It wouldn’t surprise us one bit if they got hitched in secret.” Of course, they were never “secretly married,” let alone ever engaged.

And earlier this year, the blog again dropped the ball with an article about Lovato’s love life. Having picked up a bogus tabloid report without even bothering to look into its claim, HollywoodLife posted a fake news story about Lovato dating Jesse Williams.
