Lionel Richie is not actively trying to “break up” Sofia Richie and Scott Disick, despite a report. Gossip Cop can bust the false story. Though he still isn’t thrilled about their romance, the music legend isn’t interfering in his daughter’s love life.
But according to OK!, Lionel has a “plan to break up” the couple because he’s “starting to get worried” about the relationship. In the wake of hearing Disick supposedly believes Sofia is “future wife material,” the performer is “determined to make sure [the romance] doesn’t last much longer,” contends the tabloid. A so-called “insider” alleges Lionel “flat-out” told Disick he will “never marry” his daughter, and “guaranteed” to the reality star that Sofia will one day come to her “senses” and leave him.
Disick, however, “refuses to walk away,” claims the supposed source, who further asserts he wants to “show the world their love is here to stay” with a “trial marriage.” The outlet goes on to cite another purported “insider,” who describes Sofia as “totally under his spell,” and adds, “No one would be surprised if she married Scott without her dad’s blessing.” What exactly, then, is Lionel’s “plan” for breaking them up?
Tellingly, the publication never says, even though it asks readers, “Do you think Lionel will be able to break up Sofia and Scott?” Aside from maintaining the music icon had a pointed conversation with Disick, there is no evidence to support the main premise of this article. Furthermore, the notion the singer is only just now “starting to get worried” about the relationship is provably untrue. As far back as last October it was known Lionel was afraid Sofia would get hurt by Disick.
In addition, just last month Lionel summed up the Sofia-Scott romance as “just a phase,” indicating that he’s confident the relationship will come to an end at some point, regardless of any meddling. In fact, far from getting involved, he actually told The Daily Telegraph, “I’m going to stand real still in the corner, get me a good drink and not make too much noise.” Lionel also called Disick a “very nice guy,” and stressed, “I told Sofia I will have no opinion. I’ll continue to be my cheerful self and move on.”
That pretty much goes completely against the tabloid’s contentions. It’s no wonder when Gossip Cop asked around, no one with whom we spoke could confirm that this tale about Lionel breaking the couple up is legitimate. One confidante actually told us, “OK! is just looking for a story.” Too bad it isn’t a true one. It also wasn’t true last fall when the magazine peddled bogus claims about Lionel threatening to cut Sofia off due to the relationship. Apparently the outlet is still cut off from the facts.
