Sterling K. Brown ‘SNL’ Monologue, Sketches – WATCH VIDEO

Sterling K. Brown opened his “SNL” monologue by saying how he’s known for getting emotional, and then while talking about his show “This Is Us” and about hosting “Saturday Night Live,” he began getting weepy. This is Brown’s first time hosting the comedy sketch series. Just after it was announced that the “This Is Us” star would be leading an episode of “Saturday Night Live,” he posted a video on Instagram of himself practicing the iconic “SNL” introduction in a mirror. Brown captioned the clip, “This is truly a dream come true. I’ve watched @nbcsnl since I was a baby. To finally get to host is one of the more surreal moments of my life, but it’s gonna be awesome. #SKBSNL.”

Prior to his appearance on “SNL,” Brown sat down with Jimmy Fallon on “The Tonight Show” on Thursday to talk about his hosting debut. “I am in awe [of the cast and crew]. They work so hard. On a Tuesday night, everyone is in the office wearing the same clothes they wore the night before just writing sketches,” the actor said. “All those producers, all the actors, everyone has made me feel so welcome. You see all the pictures of all the different cast members who have been there over the years, and you feel blessed to be in the room. I’m going to have the best time of my life.”

Brown’s appearance on “Saturday Night Live” comes in support of his latest film, Black Panther. The movie, which was released in February and stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan and Lupita Nyong’o, has been breaking box office records while winning critical acclaim. Appearing in the Marvel feature as the title superhero’s uncle, Brown’s role was initially kept a secret. “I don’t think I told anyone. And by anyone, I don’t know if I even told my wife,” the actor said in a recent interview.

In addition, his “SNL” hosting stint is taking place just a few days before the season two finale of “This Is Us,” which, like “Saturday Night Live,” airs on NBC. In January, Brown won a Golden Globe and a SAG Award for his portrayal of Randall Pearson on the drama series. He also scored an Emmy for the beloved character last September. In a nod to the show, one of the actor’s “SNL” promos featured Beck Bennett confusing everyone by declaring, “This is us.”

Following his monologue, Sterling appeared in an Oscars edition of “Celebrity Family Feud” as Common, who played on the side of those who didn’t win Academy Awards versus those who did, like Frances McDormand and Allison Janney. Then he appeared in a filmed bit called “This Is U.S.” that mocked administration official and cabinet members. After that Sterling played a guy having dinner with his fiancee who caused a scene because his prospective in-laws didn’t think Shrek was as good as Coco.

Next, Sterling was in another taped piece that featured friends who were camping outdoors and met up with Sasquatch, who beat and harassed one of them. He later starred in a sketch about a deleted scene from Black Panther. Following that, Sterling played a doctor a little too focused on a male patient’s love life.

In another scene, Sterling played an actor who had difficulty shooting a scene in which they needed to capture his reactions. And in his final sketch, Sterling was a friend visiting a dying woman whose last words were her singing Nickelback’s “How You Remind Me.” Watch the video of Brown’s opening monologue on “Saturday Night Live,” as well as some of the best sketches.
