GOP Senator Calls Stephen Colbert a 'Danger' to Society After Late-Night Host Trolls Capitol Hill

"Conservatives in this country are under attack," Devin Nunes says after CBS star mocks his controversial memo.

Stephen Colbert is a "danger" to America, according to one GOP senator, who argued on Fox News that a Friday night segment featuring the late-night host mocking politicians directly to their face on Capitol Hill "is a great example" of the threat left-wing comedians pose.

In the bit called "Stephen Colbert Grabs Capitol Hill by the Memo" (below), the CBS star distributes a redacted "memo" about GOP senator Devin Nunes, who famously pushed through his own controversial memo with President Trump's blessing in early February. (read all about it here. Spoiler alert: It wasn't the smoking gun Republicans were hoping for.) "Devin Nunes is a ____," Colbert's memo read, which he handed to Arizona Senator Jeff Flake. The Republican not seeking re-election filled in the blank with two guesses: "Californian? Former dairy farmer?"

Dangerous.

Nunes appeared on Fox News Saturday morning to respond to Colbert's antics.

"Yeah, well, I think this is the danger that we have in this country, this is an example of it," Nunes said. "The left controls not only the universities in the country but also control Hollywood in this country and the mainstream media, so it is conservatives in this country are under attack and, I think, this is a great example of it."

Yet he encouraged Colbert and others to continue to mock the GOP and Trump, adding, "I enjoy the attacks."

Much like his segments as a "Daily Show" correspondent, Colbert interviewed a number of real politicians (most of whom were trying to be entirely too serious, considering the man they were talking to), also including Rep. Adam Schiff, and Sen. Mark Warner. The latter is the vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, which has been tasked with probing Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

Warner was a particularly tough cookie, with a strong poker face that didn't break even when Colbert cracked this Trump joke: "Isn't Donald Trump in a way the ultimate bipartisan, because he is serving both America and Russia?"

"Would you show any emotion if a fried eyed winked at you? Because you really have a great poker face," Colbert joked. "I mean this as a compliment, you look dead inside."

While Colbert was probing for some insight into the committee's investigation, the Senator said, "I'm going to reserve judgement until we finish our report," which frustrated Colbert.

"Just say anything. Give me a hint. Anything. Blink! Blink it out in Morse code," Colbert said. "Tell me anything. You understand, we're dying out here. We're drowning in ignorance. Tell us what happened! You will tell us eventually, right? You'll tell us something?"

"We will tell you eventually," Warner said.
