The "Last Week Tonight" host knows exactly why the NRA supports the proposal: "It involves buying hundreds of thousands of guns."
As Donald Trump seems to get more keen on the idea that arming more teachers just might be the best solution to the ongoing mass shooting crisis, John Oliver broke down why it is, in fact, a terrible idea on Sunday's "Last Week Tonight."
"It is not their job," the HBO host said while outlining everything wrong with requiring teachers to pack heat, and pointed out there was an armed deputy present at the school during the shooting — and he did nothing.

"Even the logistics of this plan are pretty daunting," he said before running a clip of a CBS News report concluding Trump's plan to arm 20 percent of America's teachers would require more than 700,000 people with guns in school.
"It's no wonder the NRA likes this solution," he said. "It involves buying hundreds of thousands of guns, and that's their solution to everything. They probably deal with climate change by pointing a glock at the ocean and daring that motherf-cker to rise!"
Oliver also poked fun at Trump's list of talking points for the focus group discussion he led on the issue Wednesday, which included "I hear you" as its fifth and final point. Jokes over the list made the rounds earlier in the week, but Oliver couldn't resist the easy setup, calling the note "what you might write down if you were a robot pretending to be a person pretending to be a robot pretending to be a person."

The host then showed a clip from that focus group, where Trump could be seen asking for a show of hands for people in support of the idea, and those against. There were definitely more hands up in opposition, leading the president to say that there is clearly support and concerns on both sides.
"That is Donald Trump in a nutshell: proposing a terrible idea in a tone-deaf way then refusing to acknowledge he just lost the popular vote," Oliver joked.
