Reese Witherspoon and Meryl Streep are not “caught in a power struggle” on the set of “Big Little Lies,” despite a false report based on a premise that Gossip Cop already debunked. We can once again set the record straight. A rep for Streep told us the drama is fabricated.

Last week, Gossip Cop called out In Touch for falsely claiming that Witherspoon and Streep were feuding while shooting the second season of the HBO series. The entire article was based on claims from a so-called “eyewitness” at a Los Angeles restaurant where the two actresses dined with the rest of their co-stars. The supposed tipster insisted that Witherspoon was “really unfriendly” to Streep during the meal.

The outlet’s questionable source added, “I could tell Reese thinks she wears the pants. There’s definitely a power struggle between them.” The random, anonymous and untraceable diner provided no further details about what supposedly transpired at the restaurant. On the other hand, the Daily Mail posted photos of Witherspoon meeting her “Big Little Lies” co-stars for dinner, and she has a big smile on her face in all of the images.

Regardless of the magazine’s story being baseless, Gossip Cop still checked in with Streep’s spokesperson, who told us on the record that the article was false. We were further told that she and Witherspoon “couldn’t love each other more.” Unfortunately, that hasn’t stopped Life & Style from recycling the bogus narrative on its website.

“The struggle is real on the set of ‘Big Little Lies,'” writes the unreliable outlet, which goes on to allege there’s “mounting tension” between Witherspoon and Streep. From there, the tabloid regurgitates the false claims about Witherspoon wanting to make it clear to Streep that she’s “the main star” of the show. The publication then theorizes that Witherspoon “feels like she is in charge” because she’s been involved in the series since the beginning, while Streep is a new addition.

Once again, this entire premise is based on what a person at a restaurant alleges to have witnessed at another table. Streep’s own rep, however, confirms that she and Witherspoon get along well. It was also widely reported that Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman, both of whom produce “Big Little Lies” in addition to starring, had actively campaigned for Streep to join the show. During a recent appearance on “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” Witherspoon even expressed how excited she was when she found out that Streep had agreed to join the series. There’s simply no power struggle on the set of the hit show.
