5 Wrong Rumors About Kanye West And Donald Trump

Kanye West and Donald Trump seem to have an unlikely bromance of sorts. That’s led the gossip media to make-up a number of stories about them. Below, Gossip Cop looks back at five rumors we’ve corrected about the pair.

The stories about West and Trump have come in two waves. The first was sparked in November of 2016, when the rapper made a speech about Trump during a concert days after the presidential election, and later visited the then-president-elect at Trump Tower in December. For example, following the on-stage remarks in which he said he would’ve voted for the Republican candidate had he cast a ballot, VH1 announced Trump had responded to West’s speech. “I’ll never say bad about him. You want to know why? Because he loves Trump. He goes around saying Trump is my all-time hero. So to Kanye West, I love him. In a few years I might have to run against him, so I’ll take that back,” the article quoted Trump as saying.

But as Gossip Cop reported then, that quote about Trump’s “love” for West was from a 2015 rally, more than a year before West’s speech. The network’s website either cluelessly or deceptively took 14-month-old remarks and used them to falsely contend Trump had responded to West’s in-concert comments. The timing showed this wasn’t actually a response at all, but recycled statements that had nothing to do with the present time.

Shortly after, HollywoodLife announced West had been designing a dress for Melania Trump to wear to the inauguration before he was hospitalized for a mental breakdown. “He was behind the scenes working on sketches and pulling fabrics to design a few dresses and skirts for Melania,” a so-called “source” was quoted as saying. Upon investigating, however, Gossip Cop was exclusively told by our own source, who spoke on background, that there was “no truth” to the allegations. West wasn’t involved at all with dressing the First Lady for the historic day. We were proven right when Melania kicked off Inauguration Day in a Ralph Lauren creation, before donning a Dolce & Gabbana gown for the Inaugural Ball.

Meanwhile, MediaTakeOut, which West has openly criticized as “so [expletive] full of [expletive],” alleged following their meeting that the Grammy winner “created a new song dedicated to Donald Trump” that he was going to perform at the inauguration. The site deemed the purported music a “Trump anthem,” and claimed the plan to debut it at the inaugural festivities was discussed during their sit-down. But a rep for West exclusively told Gossip Cop on the record that the contentions were “B.S.” There was neither a song written for Trump nor a plan to perform on Inauguration Day. Sure enough, the performances in Trump’s honor did not include anything by West.

In the wake of Trump and West’s get-together, Life & Style declared Kim Kardashian was “ready for a divorce.” The tabloid deemed the meeting the “final straw” for the couple’s marriage, and insisted she was going to “file for divorce any day now.” What’s more is that it was alleged West had “separation on his mind, too.” Yet a few days before the story was published, the stars had stepped out for a date night. Now nearly a year and a half has gone by, and they’re still together. In fact, far from filing for divorce, Kardashian and West celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary earlier this week.

The second wave of stories about West and Trump were prompted by the performer’s April tweets about his “love” of the president. Once again magazines wrongly claimed his relationship was in jeopardy as a result. But the most laughable report of this new batch has come from In Touch, which claimed West wanted Trump to be the godfather of his daughter Chicago, who was born back in January. It was said the father of three felt the president, as “a man of his prestige and power,” would be a “perfect influence in [his] children’s lives,” but Kardashian was “completely opposed to the idea.” It was further asserted that West’s Trump fandom was a “bone of contention in their marriage.”

That was actually disproven on Twitter by Kardashian herself, who explained about her husband’s pro-Trump stance, “I believe in people being able to have their own opinions, even if really different from mine.” As for West wanting Trump to be his baby girl’s godfather, his spokesperson maintained to Gossip Cop that the report was “ridiculous” and untrue. To date, the 4-month-old’s real godparents have not been publicly revealed.

It’s indisputable, based on West’s own comments, that he is a fan of Trump, and the feelings are clearly mutual. But certain tabloids and websites are exploiting their connection with bogus stories. Should their friendship become a topic of national conversation for a third time, Gossip Cop suspects more phony claims will emerge. We’ll continue to separate the fact from fiction as necessary.
