HollywoodLife Flip-Flops On Khloe Kardashian Marrying Tristan Thompson

HollywoodLife is flip-flopping on whether Khloe Kardashian wants to marry Tristan Thompson. After claiming earlier this month that she was “urging” him to propose, the site now maintains she’s “halted” talk of marriage. Gossip Cop can explain how this proves the outlet doesn’t have real sources or genuine insight. See a screengrab of the contrasting headlines below.

On May 2, the website announced Kardashian was “convinced” marriage would “fix” her relationship in the wake of Thompson’s cheating scandal. Picking up a tabloid report, the blog alleged the NBA star had “a choice to make: get down on one knee or get out,” because Kardashian told him “he needs to propose or their relationship is over.” Gossip Cop investigated, however, and it was clear that Kardashian was not “urging” Thompson to propose. E! Online, which often serves as a de facto mouthpiece for the Kardashians, reported that the reality star was “taking it one day at a time.” We also pointed out a bunch of holes in the original magazine article, and noted that “these red flags didn’t stop HollywoodLife from picking up and regurgitating the claims online.”

Now on May 24, 22 days after our debunking, the site is changing course. It is now offering an “exclusive,” in which it’s asserted Kardashian and Thompson “have a long way to go before she’s ready to consider marrying him.” The publication purports to have a so-called “source close to the Kardashians,” who contends, “Right now, if he were to propose, she would probably say no.” That is a significant contradiction from what the outlet alleged three weeks ago. Where was this “source” when the website was spreading the narrative that Kardashian was focused on marriage?

Fans are apparently supposed to believe the blog is knowledgeable and has inside access to the “KUWTK” star’s world when its story was wrong earlier this month. What’s more is Gossip Cop can reveal what prompted HollywoodLies, as it is nicknamed, to suddenly change its tune. On Tuesday, People reported that while Kardashian wants to marry Thompson “eventually,” there haven’t been any “serious wedding talks yet.” Then on Wednesday, E! similarly reported Kardashian would not be “rushing into marriage,” and stressed that “any conversation or plans” on tying the knot “have been put to a halt and are not even a discussion.”

So now on Thursday, HollywoodLies is peddling this “exclusive” about marriage being off the table, but is really just copying from two credible publications. In fact, while pretending to have a “source” of its own, the outlet is transparently using the same language as E! (“halted all talk of marriage” versus “conversation or plans have been put to a halt”). And again, if the website really had a Kardashian contact, it would’ve known weeks ago that there were no imminent marriage plans, just as Gossip Cop did.

We have one last piece of evidence that indicates that, beyond being a flip-flop, this latest story was made-up by the source-less blog. Back in December, HollywoodLies wrongly assumed Kardashian and Thompson were married because she was wearing a ring in her pregnancy announcement photo. Had the site fact-checked, as Gossip Cop did, it would’ve learned that not only was the couple not wed, but they weren’t even engaged. This flub showed that the online publication wasn’t in-the-know, and didn’t have legitimate Kardashian sources. Now that’s clear once again.
