Tom Cruise has been one of the biggest movie stars in the world for more than 30 years. Unfortunately, he’s also been one of the biggest targets of the tabloids. Gossip Cop now looks back at five recent wrong rumors about the actor.

Last week, Gossip Cop called out OK! For wrongly reporting that Cruise had banned ex-wife Katie Holmes from attending this year’s Met Gala. According to the unreliable magazine, the actress wasn’t allowed to attend the Catholic-themed event because one of the conditions of her divorce from Cruise is that she can’t publicly support another religion other than Scientology. However, Holmes spoke about Christmas during an appearance on “The Late Late Show with James Corden” in 2016. Later that year, she told Jimmy Fallon during a “Tonight Show” interview that she goes Christmas caroling. The actress even revealed her daughter Suri’s Christmas wish list in 2014. Meanwhile, the actress’s rep told us on the record that Cruise didn’t ban her from the Met Gala.

Earlier this month, New Idea falsely claimed that Cruise was dating Jane Fonda. The story seemed to have been concocted simply because the two shared the stage at CinemaCon in Las Vegas last month. That same week, however, Fonda told “Extra” that she’s “not dating anymore.” The legendary actress said, “I’m 80. I’ve closed up shop down there!”

In January, Star published a bogus cover story saying Cruise was quitting Scientology to reunite with his estranged 11-year-old daughter Suri. Considering that Cruise had recently called Scientology a “beautiful religion,” we were hesitant to believe the magazine’s claim. A source close to the actor then told us on the condition of anonymity there was no truth to it. Meanwhile, time has proven that Cruise hasn’t left the church.

Gossip Cop busted the National Enquirer in November for making up a story about Cruise developing a romance with fellow Scientologist Elisabeth Moss. It seemed the article was written simply because the two stars share a religion. We were told on background by sources close to the situation that the two weren’t an item. Obviously, time has proven that to be the case.

And finally, Gossip Cop called out the Enquirer last May for making up a ridiculous story about Cruise being angry that Holmes was getting married to Jamie Foxx. But Holmes and Foxx, who have a casual romance and don’t consider themselves to be an official couple, obviously never tied the knot. The entire article was based on a absurdly false premise.
