Teddy Geiger Makes Red Carpet Debut as a Transgender Woman
May 10, 2018Six months after coming out as a trans woman, Teddy Geiger made her public debut this week.
The former teen heartthrob walked the red carpet at the 2018 BMI Pop Awards in Beverly Hills on Tuesday, May 8. There, she honored for her work co-writing the pop hits “Mercy” and “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” with this generation’s dreamboat, Shawn Mendes.
The 29-year-old previously penned several other hits for the young singer, including “Stitches,” “Treat You Better,” and “In My Blood.”

Teddy first announced her transition on Instagram in October of 2017. She decided to share this part of her life after a fan reached out to her, asking, “Tell us, why do you look differently lately?”
The songwriter replied, “because u asked nicely… I am transitioning.”
“I started talking about it with a couple of my close friends and family about a month ago and it’s given me the courage to start the process,” she continued. “I feel like the next step is to tell all y’all. So here goes. Love it or hate this is who i have been for a looooong time.”
She revealed in November she had began hormone therapy after sharing a selfie of her new look.
“Today I started HRT. The journey continues,” she penned. “Thank you for all of your support and love … it feels good to have great friends. I am very grateful.”

Later the same month, she announced that she preferred female pronouns, but wouldn’t be changing her name.
“Yes I am still Teddy,” she wrote.
