Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie Divorce Held Up Over Chateau Miraval?

Is Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s divorce held up over Chateau Miraval? A new report claims the estranged spouses haven’t reached a settlement because they’re in a disagreement over the property. But, as Gossip Cop explains below, this assertion is false, as are other allegations in the story.
“Brad & Angelina: Why They’re Still Fighting,” reads a headline in the latest issue of Life & Style. According to the article, Pitt and Jolie “can’t agree on a few key issues, and it’s keeping their divorce in an awkward holding pattern.” It’s specifically alleged the stars are having an “ongoing battle” over a prized piece of property, Chateau Miraval in France. The couple bought the estate together prior to their marriage, and in addition to living there at various points, the grounds have been used as a vineyard for wine released under their own label.
Now a so-called “insider” claims, “Angelina has been pushing Brad to sell the estate and give her half the money, but he wants to keep it.” The tabloid’s supposed source stresses Pitt loves the property, particularly after “renovating the buildings on the grounds and working with the vinter and olive oil maker” on site. But the locale is described as a “sticking point,” because to Jolie’s chagrin, it’s Pitt’s “baby” and “the one possession he’s intent on hanging on to.” As a result, the magazine contends he and Jolie are “at odds.”
But it was already confirmed by People earlier this year that Pitt and Jolie are still producing wine together and neither of them — not just the actor — have an interest in selling the property. “Their intent has always been to keep the property in the family ‘as an investment for their children,’” the reputable publication specifically reported. That clearly goes against the tabloid’s insistence that Jolie wants to sell the estate. Plus, Pitt’s rep confirms to Gossip Cop that it’s not true he and Jolie are arguing over the estate.
What’s also notable is that this narrative contradicts what the outlet told readers back in January. Just a few months ago, Life & Style insisted Jolie and Pitt were planning to finalize their split “by sometime in February.” Gossip Cop, however, learned that wasn’t true and that no significant progress had been made. We were proven right when February came and Jolie and Pitt said they were still negotiating their divorce settlement and sought a court extension. But because the situation still isn’t settled, the tabloid is now inaccurately blaming the apparent hold-up on a nonexistent dispute over Chateau Miraval.
In addition, this new article contains other falsehoods, such as claiming Pitt has been “dating” Neri Oxman while Jolie is “secretly seeing a British millionaire.” Both of these allegations have already been widely disproven. As first reported by Page Six and confirmed to Gossip Cop by the actor’s spokesperson, Pitt and the MIT professor are strictly friends. We also called out Life & Style in March for fabricating a tale about Jolie getting married to a supposed secret beau from the UK. On top of there being no proof that such a paramour actually exists, People reported shortly after our bust that Jolie is “not dating” and “will not be.”
To summarize, after wrongly claiming Jolie and Pitt’s divorce would be settled in February, the magazine is now also wrong in claiming they’re “fighting” over Chateau Miraval. Furthermore, the tabloid shows it is far from knowledgeable by putting both stars into romantic relationships that don’t actually exist. And Gossip Cop would be remiss not to mention that this is the same publication that falsely announced Pitt and Jolie were back together a year ago, a big flub we recently took a look back at to highlight how Life & Style is not credible. This latest inaccurate article further proves that.
