Nicole Kidman has repeatedly been the target of untrue tabloid stories. In just the past few months alone, Gossip Cop has corrected numerous falsehoods about her personal relationships, professional rivalries, and even real estate purchases. Here are five wrong rumors about Kidman.
In November, a number of outlets wrongly reported that Kidman and husband Keith Urban were buying a $39 million townhouse in New York. Picking up an unconfirmed story from Woman’s Day, RadarOnline quoted an unnamed “source,” who maintained, “Nicole is keen to do Broadway shows and get into making TV programs and New York is a much better place for them to be than Nashville.” The 12,000-square-foot mansion, spread across six floors, has 16 rooms, an outdoor patio, a roof deck, and was once home to Michael Jackson.
Rather than taking the tabloids’ word, however, Gossip Cop looked into the claim. Adam Modlin, the realtor representing the property, exclusively assured us Kidman and Urban did not buy the New York mansion. But it wasn’t just us who bulldozed the rumor. After the untrue story continued to spread, Kidman herself said she’s not moving to New York. She told “Extra” that it was “definitely a wrong rumor,” adding, “We’re staying put in Nashville.”
The next month, Life & Style ran a cover that maintained Kidman and her “Big Little Lies” co-star and co-producer Reese Witherspoon “can’t stand each other.” A so-called “insider” was quoted by the magazine as asserting, “Nicole and Reese are kind of like vinegar and oil, and they are definitely fake friends.” The same alleged source also claimed the two women “do not spend time together outside of work” and that Kidman was holding up the second season of “Big Little Lies.”
Far from the contention that they “can’t stand each other” and “do not spend time together outside of work,” Kidman revealed to Entertainment Weekly when nominated for Emmys for “Big Little Lies” that she had just come back from vacationing with Witherspoon and they continued texting each other as soon as they parted ways. And moments after the show won for Outstanding Limited Series, Witherspoon shared a photo on Instragam of her hugging Kidman, with the message, “Love you Nicole!” Additionally, a rep for Kidman told Gossip Cop the claim was all “lies.” Also, far from there being ill-will or Kidman holding up production, filming has already begun for the season season, and she, Witherspoon, and other “cast members of “Big Little Lies” went bowling this past Sunday night.
In February, Star reported Kidman was strong-arming the other producers of “Big Little Lies” to give Urban a part. A so-called “source” told the outlet, “She’s pushing hard for producers to write a role for him.” The same untraceable tipster added that the actress felt “being paired with Keith onscreen will snatch some of the attention back from Meryl [Streep],” who joined the cast for the second season and who allegedly Kidman feared would upstage her. But Kidman herself shot down talk of collaborating with Urban. She told a room full of reporter at the SAG Awards, “I don’t think that having a cameo on one of my projects would interest him.”
The following month, In Touch ran a cover story that falsely asserted Kidman and Urban were getting a divorce after spending five days, to no avail, at a private counseling retreat in Vermont. The tabloid alleged the couple was “fighting constantly over Nicole’s incessant jealousy,” as well as where to live, with Kidman wanting to return to Australia, while Urban preferred to stay in his adopted home of Nashville.
Not only did Kidman’s rep, acting on the actress’s behalf, tell Gossip Cop on the record that the cover story was a “total fabrication,” but time has also proven the publication was wrong. They’re obviously still together. Additionally, rarely does Urban do an interview in which he doesn’t gush about Kidman. And for her part, Kidman often shares on Instagram and elsewhere how much she loves her husband.
And finally, just a few days ago, the repeatedly debunked New Idea reported that Kidman was “furious” with Jennifer Aniston and Urban for having a “secret rendezvous.” The tabloid maintained Kidman was “livid when she saw the pair had been out to dinner together” and “felt her husband had betrayed her trust.” The outlet even quoted a “source close” to Kidman as saying, “Nicole absolutely hit the roof when she found out Keith and Jen had been out to dinner together… She really felt like she’d been betrayed.”
As Gossip Cop noted when we first busted the story, the article doesn’t mention once where or when Aniston and Urban supposedly had their “secret rendezvous” that had Kidman “reeling.” The tabloid also couldn’t explain how not one out of the 7.5 billion people on Earth witnessed this. The reason is because it was all made up. The magazine or its supposed tipster concocted the entire scenario. And while the publication hid behind one unidentifiable source, Aniston’s rep told uson the record the alleged rendezvous “never happened,” while Kidman’s spokesperson also said the claim was a complete fabrication. Undoubtedly, there will be more wrong rumors about Kidman, but Gossip Cop will be on the beat to separate fact from fiction about her.
